[7th Scene] [Video/In Person for Ecruteak]

[Yes, the normally wide-attention-avoidant Kuja is making a video post! Which…judging by the fog and dim lighting, seems to be in the Ecruteak Gym; fortunately the camera is being held by a Chansey who happens to be standing right next to a somewhat battered-looking Kate, the Charizard's fiery tail providing some lighting for the camera. Kuja's standing next to the dragon, hand resting on her neck…and is on the side of the frame.]

[As for the gym battle in progress? Weellll sadly that's a bit harder to see, considering that besides the fog, there seems to be a raging sandstorm engulfing the arena area, a sandstorm that's accompanied by an almost distorted feminine wordless song punctuated here and there by some very frustrated sounds from the gym leader's Gengar within it; here and there a green blur is visible coming in and out of the sand, a blur that briefly hovers over the sandstorm long enough to be identified as a Flygon, and the source of the "singing".]

That should be enough, Bahamut; Crunch.

[Kuja raises a hand and motions downward, and the Flygon nods and dives back in; there's a brief, cut-off howl from the Gengar, and then the "song" changes pitch as the sand quickly clears.]

How is-

[Bahamut returns over to Kuja's side while Morty crosses the now very sand-logged field, rubbing the back of his head and handing over the badge.]

You've certainly got potential - I admit, it's a bit of a surprise; not many Breeders even bother with the gym challenges.

[Kuja accepts the badge, bowing his head gracefully.] It may not be in the normal trials, but I see no reason to avoid testing how well they're doing; although - [And there's just a brief glance back at the camera-] I imagine it'd have gone easier if I'd had an actual Dark type on hand.

[That just nets him an odd look and a glance to the camera-Chansey from Morty - the look of someone who knows SOMETHING is going on, but isn't sure what.] Well, you've earned this, and you've got room to grow.

[The feed cuts out, and not long after for anyone in Ecruteak, Kuja's emerging from the gym, a very sparkly and healthy looking Feebas in his arms, trailed by Bahamut, Kate, and Hermia the Chansey, looking fairly accomplished. What's he up to? Who knows! ~~Well, besides a certain person.~~ Feel free to bother him anyway! Badge is mod-approved!]

[Ritz is lurking outside of the gym, Bijou in her arms.] Very funny, Kuja. [That tone alone could be a Blizzard spell all on its own. The look on her face is pretty equal with that tone.] Seriously, could you be any more obvious?

[It's testament to the fact that she likes Kuja that she hasn't punched him and run off. Well, that, and the fact that she has Bijou in her arms. As it is, she's just standing there, glaring.]

[Well, if she was expecting that to daunt him...she's going to be disappointed.] I suppose it wasn't my best performance. [At least he's toning his usual undertone of smug bastard down a bit?] But then, it seemed the sort of show where an object demonstration would do more than a soliloquy...

[Congratulations, your travel partner is starting to get his old theatrical touch back.]

Particularly when Mathis will devour that Gym.

Then you could have borrowed him, you twit! [Bijou is hopping down- Ritz is a little bit too furious for Bijou to be comfortably in Ritz's arms. She's taking a deep breath in through her nose, but her hands are white-knuckled fists. She is not going to punch Kuja, however much it might be immediately satisfying.]

Oh, I had no actual need of him - Bahamut and Kate took care of it quite handily.

[Still much to learn, young apprentice~]

However, if it went that smoothly when we've been not nearly as zealous in our training and lack any actual direct advantage...

[Ritz is just glaring at him- and Bijou is a fuzzy, split-tailed traitor, because she's running into the gym. Ritz is marching in with this very intense aura of rage about her.]

[And Kuja? Is going to give a moment before trailing behind, possibly a bit MORE smug... at least Bijou understood what he was trying to get across, apparently.]

[Whatever he was hinting at went right over Bakura's head ~~like most things~~]]

[Oh, don't worry, somehow the obliviousness is slightly endearing.]

I hadn't originally been intending to pursue the Gyms, but I think it might be a worthwhile challenge after all.

They give some pretty helpful bonuses, some of them, un. [[Now that he has Fly, however, he's thinking he's done bothering with them for now. He's got the big prize, far as he's concerned.]]

And I have been, thank you! [[a soft smile.]] We finally made it back to Goldenrod, after everything. [[a small laugh. Traveling in this weather... at least it wasn't like the first time it'd snowed on the road, but still not something he wanted to bother with again!]]

Really? It seems we just missed you, then; we only recently left for Ecruteak, and are likely continuing on so Ritz can get the rest of the Johto badges.

[God the snow. Every day he went out he missed his magic and being able to cheat on that more and more. :| ]

Aaa, you must have! That's a shame! [[so sheepish there]] Aaaa, I really haven't been having much luck catching people... Though maybe I'll have Fuushi give me a lift over, before you get too much further. [[a warm smile]] It's not too far by air. [[ya know, as long as the weather was clear. He wasn't about to make the hot-air balloon-esque pokemon try and fly through a storm!]

[He covers the small tinge well - he's grown used to the relative protection that the distance and separation the Gears offer; dealing with people in person means so many other factors to take into account and plan for...]

[But at least Bakura is harmless, or at least someone more likely to be a pawn than a threat, at worst.]

It isn't - and I'm fairly sure our next destination is going to be Cianwood, via Olivine, for the ability to use Fly ourselves. We'll likely route through Goldenrod a few more times while Ritz is finishing getting her badges, as well.

[Considering that Kate was about the size Sondren had been when he started teaching the silver dragon how to fly and carry him back home, and that Kate seemed to be flying perfectly well on her own, it seemed nonsensical to need the HM... but he'd filed it in among the various bits of Johto that seemed allergic to normal logic.]

[[as he is in Johto with no Voice lurking inside him? Quite harmless, especially to one he considers a friend.]]

Aaaa, we just came from there! It might be better to wait until after you get that one and come back, then, else we might wind up just chasing each other around the map! [[a small laugh]]

Most likely. We're certainly not going to find a force on heaven or earth that'd sway Ritz from pursuing her goals, and after that it'd be a fairly simple matter.

Although it wasn't entirely a fair challenge - Bahamut and Kate are well above the Gym's level.

I think that happens a lot. Pretty sure I've always been overleveled, but it looks like that won't be the case for any of us in Kanto.

I would be surprised if they'd set up a "further challenge" that didn't account for the people with entire teams at level one hundred.

Have you heard much about the gyms there?

Riku challenged Sabrina, the leader in Saffron, a little while ago. He said her entire team was level one hundred, and her strategy's pretty solid. I think it's the first time he's had to challenge any gym leader twice.

[He nods, thinking.]

That would make sense, somehow, if those gyms are meant to be something pursued after one's been through Johto.

[Yep, he's pretty aware that getting all eight badges doesn't mean going home. Behold all the fucks he gives.[

Do you think levels would get past a hundred, in regions beyond that? I'm not sure how else they'd make it tougher...

Is it really that foggy in there or was that just... the camera not able to handle filming in a little mist?

I'm afraid it actually is that foggy; the way to the Gym Leader is also poorly lit - I assume it's the usual gym theatrics, playing to their type.

[He reaches over to pat Kate's neck, getting a small rumble from the Charizard.] It does seem that some fire-types are an adequate light source to make it less miserable, at least.

... Eeeegh.

Was he easy to beat, at least?

[He thinks for a moment; he hadn't had much trouble, although he'd been playing with off-type attacks and partly leaning on his team being somewhat over-leveled.]

Not too difficult - I didn't have any real type advantage, but I also had two with thirty levels on his and a few ways to hit weaknesses. If you have any Dark pokémon that're at least around level fifty, you would go through them like a fox through mice - judging by how fast Bahamut's one Dark attack worked, our theatrics with the sandstorm may've been unnecessary.

Hm... well, I do have Dark Pokemon...

And Normal types won't hit Ghosts, right?

No, they won't, although if a given attack is a different type, it doesn't matter who uses it. A "normal" type with, say, Bite or Crunch would be able to get around that problem, and they're not immune to, say, fire or electricity.

[Because if she was speculating other types despite HAVING Dark types, then they probably weren't strong enough to manage; but if she had other types that were stronger...]

Oh, Fire works okay? I should be all set, then.

[He nods at that.] It seems the only thing that's useless is basic normal-type attacks; if you've been here any length of time, you likely have a few that'd be able to outstrip the Gym.

[Not like he stalks the Network enough to know you've been here longer than him or anything. Nope.]

All right.

I won't worry, then.
